Transmission Maintenance

Transmission Service

Your vehicle's transmission relies on clean, correctly specified fluid to operate smoothly and protect its internal components. PSM Workshop provides professional transmission servicing based on your vehicle's manufacturer requirements and transmission condition.

Why it matters

Protect the Heart of Your Drivetrain

Transmission fluid lubricates internal components, helps control operating temperature and provides the hydraulic pressure required for smooth gear changes. Over time, the fluid can deteriorate and become contaminated with normal wear material.

Regular transmission servicing can help maintain smoother operation, reduce unnecessary wear and identify leaks or other problems before they become more serious.

Transmission service requirements vary between vehicles. We inspect the transmission and confirm the correct fluid specification and servicing procedure before beginning work.

Scope

What a Transmission Service May Include

  • Transmission condition and leak inspection
  • Draining the existing transmission fluid
  • Removing the transmission pan where applicable
  • Inspecting and cleaning the transmission pan
  • Replacing the transmission filter or strainer where serviceable
  • Replacing the pan gasket or approved sealing material
  • Refilling with the correct transmission fluid
  • Setting the fluid level using the correct temperature and manufacturer procedure
  • Checking transmission operation after servicing
  • Reporting any leaks, excessive contamination or signs of internal wear

The exact procedure depends on the transmission design. Some vehicles use sealed units, internal filters or manufacturer-specific filling and level-checking procedures.

Our approach

How We Service Your Transmission

Pan, Filter and Fluid Service

Where the transmission design allows it, the pan is removed to access the filter or strainer. The pan is cleaned, the filter and gasket are replaced where required and the transmission is refilled using the correct fluid and level-setting procedure.

Transmission Fluid Exchange

Some vehicles may be suitable for a more extensive fluid exchange procedure. This is assessed individually because the correct method depends on the transmission type, service history, condition and manufacturer guidance.

A complete fluid exchange is not automatically suitable for every transmission. PSM Workshop will recommend the appropriate method after assessing the vehicle.

Symptoms

Signs Your Transmission May Need Attention

  • Delayed engagement when selecting Drive or Reverse
  • Harsh, slow or irregular gear changes
  • Transmission shudder or vibration
  • Fluid leaking beneath the vehicle
  • Burning or unusual fluid smell
  • Transmission warning light
  • Flared engine speed between gear changes
  • Dark or contaminated transmission fluid
  • Unusual whining, humming or clunking noises

These symptoms do not always mean the transmission requires replacement. A proper inspection is required to identify the cause.
